The California Institute for Federal Policy Research and the Washington Office of California Governor Gray Davis are pleased to provide you the following joint product, a legislative staff directory for the California Congressional delegation.
During 1999, the California Congressional delegation was faced with a broad array of challenges manufactured by opportunistic legislators from competing states. Working together in a bipartisan fashion, they successfully rebuffed efforts to slash funding for the key State Criminal Alien Assistance Program (SCAAP), beat back an onerous cap on transit funds which would have impacted only California and one other state, and ensured that disaster insurance requirements on public buildings would be imposed rationally, not hastily. Similar challenges will surely arise in the second session of the 106th Congress.
We hope that this directory will serve as another reminder for you and your offices of the many opportunities for collaboration with your California colleagues when you are faced with issues or challenges important to the state and its residents.
