To expand communication between Washington and California, the California Institute provides periodic bulletins, briefings, and other information regarding current activity on Capitol Hill and throughout Washington that affects our state.
Congressional members and staff are invited to attend a briefing regarding Southern California's response to extreme drought conditions impacting the entire state. The briefing will be held Wednesday, March 11, 2009, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, in Room 326 of the Capitol Building.
The briefing will feature comments by Timothy Brick, Chairman of the Metropolitan Water District (MWD) of Southern California, and Gary Tobben, President and CEO of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce.
In a Dear Colleague inviting Members and staff to attend, Reps. Grace Napolitano, Ken Calvert, Xavier Becerra, and Lucille Roybal-Allard wrote, "We are experiencing a critical time in the history of California water policy. Historic droughts have led to water rationing that has affected our state and our constituents. It is a time when business, industry, and government must come together to identify and pursue solutions that will benefit all our communities."
For assessing compliance with Congressional gift ban rules, note that the California Institute is a 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofit organization that employs no lobbyists, and we anticipate this will be a widely-attended event.
